The Gingerbread Man – Level 3

The Gingerbread Man – Level 3 is a lively retelling of one of the oldest folktales about a gingerbread man’s escape from the oven that originally came into print in 1875, retold by Mairi Mackinnon through simple text and stunning, well-detailed illustrations.

The Gingerbread Man is a part of the Usborne First Reading Series and is a storybook written especially for children who are learning to read. It is developed in consultation with Alison Kelly, Senior Lecturer in Education and Reading Specialist at the University of Roehampton, UK.

An old woman bakes a gingerbread man, who leaps from her oven and runs away. Soon the whole village starts chasing after him as he tries to outrun everyone when finally a fox catches and eats him. This retelling of the story gives a very important lesson for the children to remember- it is never good to be disrespectful and disobedient to the elders and parents.
